FUE - Follicular Unit Extraction
The FUE procedure is recommended for those that wish to have their receding hairlines made thicker.
The Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) technique is a groundbreaking advancement in hair transplant technology, offering a minimally invasive solution for restoring thinning hairlines and receding areas. At HairOptions, this advanced procedure is performed by Prof. E.A. Christofides, a highly qualified Plastic Surgeon (FC Plast Surg (SA), MMed Wits) with extensive experience in permanent hair restoration.
Unlike the traditional FUT method, FUE allows for the extraction of much finer individual hairs—ideal for creating a more natural-looking hairline. However, not everyone is an ideal candidate. If your treatment requires more than 3,000 grafts, and you are still experiencing active hair loss, it’s crucial to consider the long-term plan for future restoration.
In our professional experience, overharvesting donor hair during the first session can leave patients with insufficient donor supply if more transplants are needed later. That’s why our approach emphasizes strategic planning and sustainable results, tailored to each patient’s stage of hair loss.

The way it is done is by removing hair from the donor area at the back of your head using an extractor and inserting them into the thinning area using an implant needle. This method is not recommended for person seeking volume as it is a much more labour intensive procedure using much finer technique.
The healing time is only one week as there is little or no bleeding or scaring. During our consultation we will explain all the various options available to you.
