Hair loss, also known as Alopecia, refers to a loss of hair from certain parts of the scalp.
This loss or thinning of hair affects more than just the scalp, it can have a shattering impact on your self-esteem and confidence.
Let us help you get your confidence back.
PRP Technical how it works.
The PRP procedure involves our doctor drawing about 6 to 8 vials of your blood.
The blood is spun for at least 10 minutes, to separate the platelets from the other cells.
The Plasma rich Platelets are then drawn from the ampules and injected into the affected hair loss area/s.
Platelets have hundreds of specialized proteins called growth factors that aid healing and start stimulating the follicles. Since PRP is concentrated with many more platelets than normal blood, it is often used to treat wounds, tendon tears, and arthritis pain.
This type of PRP can also be used when transplanting hair where the micro grafts are placed in a layer of growth factors to help heal and improve the recovery of the newly placed hair grafts.
We would inject PRP into your scalp using a microneedle. The idea is that the growth factors help to create or stimulate new hair follicles.
We recommend 3 treatments about 3 weeks apart. You might need a booster treatment 6 months later when hair growth starts to slow down.
There are no known side effects.
Are you a candidate for PRP?
PRP treatments are recommended for anyone with thinning hair and certain types of genetic balding. Great results have been seen in patients with most forms of Alopecia. PRP is useful as a combined treatment with laser therapy, especially for women that have traction alopecia. However, PRP is most effective when combined with additional procedures, including Hair Transplants.
All of our patients are assessed individually so that our bespoke treatment matches your hair loss problem or condition.
PRP isn’t ideal for everyone. It might not be a good choice for you if you:
- Have a blood disease or a bleeding disorder
- Are anemic
- Are pregnant
- Are undergoing anticoagulation (anti-clotting) treatment
- Have an active infection or another issue that could spread from injections
- If you have a low pain threshold
- Have a problem with needles
